Proficiency captures a character's competence in a domain.

There are six Proficiencies in the game:

• three Defenses (Toughness, Resolve, Perception)
• three Paths (Combat, Special, Skill)

Proficiency Ranks

Proficiencies have five ranks (represented by pips on the character sheet):

Proficiency Modifier

The base bonus Modifier of a check, which is always added.

• If you have a proficiency rank, the Proficiency Bonus equals Character Level + Proficiency rank.
• If you have no proficiency rank, you are Untrained. The Proficiency Bonus is half your Character Level, rounded down.
